The Laboratory of Nature-inspired Advanced Materials Engineering led by Dr Zhai Wei is based at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. Our research is focused on 5Ms, Multi-material and Multi-scale Manufacturing of Materials with Multi-functionalities. We design and engineer materials via multi-material composition and multi-scale length structure controllable advanced manufacturing technologies, such as additive manufacturing, freeze casting, template replication, etc. We are targeting developing strong and lightweight materials with multi-functionalities, such as energy absorption, acoustic, electrical, and electromagnetic properties. Our group is taking a multi-disciplinary approach using the principles of engineering, materials, chemistry, and physics.
